Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ ) today reported that its net income fell 7 percent during the second quarter, even as revenues rose, as the company counted the cost of wireline declines.

For the last six years, Boingo Platform Services, which provides Boingo’s aggregated Wi-Fi hotspot network to corporate customers, has had Verizon’s business division as a customer. Both sides have extended the relationship, allowing Verizon’s wired customers in on the deal.

Verizon Communications has had a change of heart about using Wi-Fi to extend its wireless broadband offering as the company announces free access to Wi-Fi hot spots for its Fios and DSL Internet customers.
